Did you know that four species of hummingbirds migrate through Colorado from mid-summer to fall? These species include the Broad-tailed, Black-chinned, Rufous, and Calliope. It is an amazing sight to see, though trying to identify one species from another can be a challenging endeavor, especially with females and juveniles.
In this workshop, we will look for specific field marks, bill shapes, head shapes, and behaviors while also listening intently to their many hums, trills, and call notes. This workshop will give you new ideas to help make identifying these fast flyers a little bit easier. This fun workshop is for bird enthusiasts of all levels, from new to expert. Lead by Alison Kondler of @birding_by_ear.
Location: Private residence in the mountains of Lyons, CO. The house offers incredible close-up views of hummingbirds with their many feeders in a beautiful wooded area. There will also be great opportunities to see and hear other mountain bird species. The exact location and more information will be emailed to registered participants on the day before the event.
Bring binoculars, a hat, sunglasses, water, a camera, and snacks.
Limited to 14 guests. Will you be one of them?
