Event Details

Four species of hummingbirds make their way through Colorado in late summer and fall including, Broad-tailed, Black-chinned, Rufous, and Calliope on their migration back south. It is an amazing sight to see, though trying to identify one species from another can be a challenging endeavor, especially with females and juveniles. In this workshop, we will look for specific field marks, bill shapes, head shapes, and behaviors while also listening intently to their many hums, trills, and call notes. This workshop will give you new ideas to help make identifying these fast flyers a little bit easier. This fun workshop is for new to expert bird enthusiasts

Bring binoculars, a hat, sunglasses, water, and snacks.

Location: Private residence in the mountains of Lyons, CO. The house offers incredible close-up views of hummingbirds with their many feeders in a beautiful wooded area. There will also be great opportunities to see and hear other mountain bird species. The exact location and more information will be emailed to registered participants on the day before the event.

Note: To help the group focus on bird sounds and learning, please hold off on photography with mirrorless or DSLR cameras until the last hour of the workshop or have a silent shutter setting on your camera.
